Hey everybody,
I am not sure if this thread goes here or not. Anyhow, I am new to the board but I have looked around the forum and I like it. I really like the Low Budget forum the best as of right now haha.
I have been filming since high and through college and need to expand my filming. I saw all the neat and intersting ways to create dolly's, and different effects and just had some questions on them.
1. when you are putting together the dolly, what type of bolts, and screws should I use. I know it varies on what your using but if someone could give me an example of what they did that would be very helpful.
2. Does anyone know how to create a jib/crane that's not too much money. I would like to try to make one.
3. As for lighting, I cannot afford to buy lighting equipment but I was thinking about using one of those clamp lights and clamp them to a tripod. If that's the best way to do it what type of lightbulb should I use? I currently have a sony handy cam (nothing to special but gets the job done). What lighting should be best of that type of camcorder?
Also should I try to get see transparent colored paper to get say dark blue for night time, or should I just buy a colored lightbulb?
I am trying to work on these things to see what works good, what I should and shouldn't do and see what is better. It couldn't hurt to try them haha.
Anywho, those are my questions for now.
Thanks!

hi welcome to this forum there was a person selling cranes on ebay for less then £50. Search the net and you might beable to build your own cheaper. As for lights stick with gels, i bought 10 gels off ebay for about £9. so theres bargins out there. I used floodlights and bulbs. But with old floodlights some of them give off amber colour this is becuase of the bulb so test before using. As for the dolly i read somewhere that someone knicked or "borrowed" a trolley an used tht as a dolly. Also wheelchairs make good steadycam shots. Also beleive it or not they sell them on ebay lol.

Thanks! I will check it out. Well my grandfather has tools, wood, drills, saws etc in his barn. He has just about everything to build and shape woods etc so I thought maybe I would try making it out of wood, I wouls just need a blueprint on how a crane works haha. I have built stuff in the past but nothing for my movies. I will start off with a dolly because it seems like a best place to start. I am also trying to figure out any way I could make my own props. Like what kind of stuff to make paster and/or get plaster, and prostheics, what types and which is the best way to use them etc. Thanks for the help guys ttyl Milltown
