what do you think of war of teh worlds?? i went to see it thought it was one of the best films ive seen at the cinema in a long time. It was well directed and Tom and the kid where excellent acting, and it didnt mess with the original just had one or two new things.

I was throughly disappointed. The first hour was great, even if the girl did make me want to strangle her. But hey, I hate kids so... Then it slowed down in the basement, and I started to think, and that's where it falls apart. For those that haven't seen it, my complaints contain SPOILERS!
1. They were here a million years ago, why not wipe out the much smaller population then, also no buildings to get in the way. Plus if they have been here before, why didn't they know about the bacteria and stuff? It works in the original because the invasion is the first time they have come here. 2. That bit in the cellar with the camera looking for them. WE have thermal imaging and infra red cameras, are we saying the aliens didn't come up with something similar? Again, in the original, it's not a seeing tentacle, it's a feeling one, which could plausib;y be avoided. 3. The worst bit - The HUGE slab of Spielbergian Cheese that is Ray's WHOLE family surviving, and the lad finally calling him "Dad!"
The effects were fantastic and like I say, the first hour was great. But because it set itself up as an intelligent film; compared to Independance Day which was just big, dumb and knew it; these niggles take away from it a lot.
Oh, and what's with him taking down a tripod single-handedly. I mean Come On!

MY bro saw it last night and said it seemed like a huge rip off of LOTR. Cinamaticwise!
I mean, come on! After LOTR its seems like every movie/video game needs a scene with two even army running into each other at the same speed.
