the first film that blew me away was probably The Matrix, followed closely by The Fellowship of The Ring

Day of the dead, and Ichi the killer.
Not because they are the two most violent movies I have seen so far. They both have a wonderful and creative plot.

Day of the Dead was okay, but I'd say the original Dawn of the Dead was the one that blew me away. I've never watched a movie with my brain running so feverishly thinking what I would do in such and such a situation.
And of course Star Wars before it was retitled Episode IV a New Hope. That one changed everything for me when I was a kid.

The Silence of the Lambs had it all , great story, acting, sound and music. But as far as SFX goes - Terminator 1& 2
