Low Budget Films What’s funnier is these films have no budget and are very watch able and you watch some crappy film with a massive budget and you find yourself turning over after 2 minutes.
Recommended Low budget Films
Evil Dead
Sam Raimi first filmed a short to show to the general public asking for funding to begin shooting his film, he raised $90,000 an started shooting his low budget film Evil Dead with his student friends. Films he’s directed: Quick and the Dead, Spider man 1 and 2.
El Mariachi
I was shocked about how cheap Robert Rodriquez made the film for $5,000 and now he’s a massive player in Hollywood.
Dark Star
John Carpenter directed this film, sets where built in his kitchen and garage, the alien in the film is a beach ball. John Carpenter went on to direct Escape from LA, The thing.
Dan O'Bannon stared in the film and went on to write Alien.
Clerks
The 13th sign
Shot for £5,000 but ended up costing £25,000. Made it in to Blockbusters generating over 30,000 rentals and selling 2000 dvds.
Razor Blade Smile
Jake West shot this Vampire film on super 16mm in 23 days, for £16,000 to shoot and a further £20,000 to complete.
From Dusk Till Dawn
This isn’t a cheap movie but the special edition is packed with hours and hours of extras about all the crew and cast, very helpful DVD.
Evil Dead and all the others it was pretty much the same scenario students with some money set out and make a film.
FILM PROFITS
Films name who directed them, who was in them and how much it cost and how much they made how much profit can only be a estimate film profits are always on going and most directors and producers dont want there profits thrown around for everyone to view so the table below is estimates from good sources!
NAME DIRECTOR MAIN ACTOR COST PROFIT Mad Max Mel Gibson $100,000 $60,000,000+ Bad Taste Peter Jackson Peter Jackson Dark Star John Carpenter Dan O'Bannon $60,000 Evil Dead Sam Raimi Bruce Campbell $90,000 El Mariach Robert Rodriguez $7,000 The 13th Sign Jonty Acton Nadij Brand £25,000 Blair Witch Daniel Myrick Eduardo Sanchez Heather Donahue $22,000 $240,500,000+ Razor Blade Smile Jake West Eileen Daly £16,000

like in Blair Witch it was made for $22,000 but after the Stuido cleaned it up it ended up costing $500,000 for post. but still earned 200million+. I think it was mainly the hype tht sold that film.

maybe they where paid IOU, defereed payments, but when you hear El Mariachi costs $7,000 and thats on film, you just wonder where the money went, after seeing the behind the scenes, and you wonder whether its made money?
It was shot on 16mm. For some strange reason they hired a airplane hanger and built the set in there. I could or would rather buy a house and film in there instead.

i bought undead about a month ago and rebought the UK release so i could see the behind the scenes, no one got paid, there was bake beans for food, and everything was borrowed, used or rented, effects on home pc, edited on adrobe and shoot on 16mm,
so it sounds very low budget. Untill you hear the budget was 400,000 pounds thts 1,000,000 Austrailan dollors. Where the hell did they spend it ?

did you see it, on last night on BB2. Film maker trying to make his film, sometimes i thought is this real or one of those fake docs, but its real.
I thought he was a bit mad and encentric but the what you saw of the b&w picture i thought was good. Sony bought American Moive for $1million.
What you think of this?

Just thought of another one, I’ve been doing special effects since I was 12 years old, casting my hand, little glass bottles, making scabs etc. Although I painted warhammer figures and world war tanks I was more into models, the big ones 1:16 scale.
Once, I painted a Eldar war walker from warhammer 40k game for my mate. While riding on bikes back to his house, him holding the model in one hand admiring it, the handle bar in the other. A car come around the corner and nearly knocked him off his bike.

i started one of these posts in a nother forum before and it was funny. When i was shooting rising evil short film, i hung out of my window which was 40foot off the floor, so i could grab Keiron but he wouldnt let me go so in the film in hanging on a window sill, bunching Keiron (cos i was the reaper) and he was holding on to my hand in case i feel. The scene where Keiron walks into a dark room then switches on the light reveling blood on the wall, that blood stained, and i mean it wouldnt come off with bleach, turps, soupy water etc, so i repainted the wall then found out i repainted it gloss when it was matt, after 7 coats of paint you can still see it a bit but mum never knew cos she was on hoilday. We found this hill where Keiron trips and falls down it, he did it only to find out i wasnt recording. At the end when the reaper goes on fire, Keiron says "i cant light it", i say "i'll light the bastard" so i spray the head with diodirant and i mean loads, OK action Kieron lights it and bang a fire ball covers his hand and hes aarrhh cos it happened so fast and i wanted to get it finish i was come on, stop your complaining lol, it was only in editing i could freeze frame it and see his hand was completely covered, also when we did light it the one we filmed the flames nearly where touching thee ceiling, so i through it into the kitchen sink lol.

EL MARIACH 10/10 This has got to be the number one for film makers full of helpful information and how Robert used what he had and put it in his film.
BAD TASTE 9/10 Its on the limited edition called "bad taste gone good taste" it only 25mins but it shows you the background of him and his mates who where in the film, previous projects that he never finished, (The Valley). ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FILMMAKING I LEARNED FROM THE TOXIC AVENGER 2/10 Lloyd Kaufman I bought this book cheap, I was sad to read within the first page dont buy this book if you want to learn how to make films. This book isnt to do with making films or even a how to, its more of Lloyd Biographie. He also says he need 700,000 words before his publisher will publish the book so most of the 300+ pages drags on.

LIST YOUR BOOK AND RATED IT OUT OFF 10
I bought a couple books for film making, here’s my list
THE GUERILLA FILM MAKERS MOVIE BLUEPRINT "the best book for film making ive bought" 10/10 this is an ace book on everything there is to know about film making, i did have the green and yellow one and now they have brought out the Hollywood one which is the latest but it looks too complex lol.
REBAL WITH OUT A CREW 7/10 "inspiring and fun" This is a fun read, it contains his script, a diary day by day, pictures, start from when he was in the Labs to when he sold his first film.
FILMING ON A MICRO BUDGET 3/10 "good for a fiver" Its ok for a fiver, it looks like the guy who wrote the book has shot a feature film but he’s only shot a short film so all the budgets, timing etc is for a short film.
MAKE YOUR OWN DAM MOVIE! 8/10 "funny, good info, realistic" Funny, mad, realistic and clever Lloyd Kaufman is all of them and more, this book is gd or maybe even great, it deals with mainly filming in the real world what’s it like, his experiences etc.
THE GUERILLA FILM MAKERS MOVIE GREEN 7/10 & YELLOW EDITION 6/10 Its just like the blueprint but im not as well laid out, some parts can put you off making films (the first page gives a diagram of power of 10 meaning you would have to write 1,000 scripts for 1 to get filmed an from that one film you will break even, go bankrupt an go to prison or be in hollywood. Theres also too much detail for budgets you will never afford for orcastras etc.
ALL THE LOVE YOU CANNES! 9/10 DVD So, so funny this will have you laughing your ass off, mainly how you can sell your film in canne and do it on the cheap, shows you canne ain't all glammer as I once thought, i'ts a bit like Jackass in some ways.
Im sure i have more books, i'll post them later date.

hi welcome to this forum there was a person selling cranes on ebay for less then £50. Search the net and you might beable to build your own cheaper. As for lights stick with gels, i bought 10 gels off ebay for about £9. so theres bargins out there. I used floodlights and bulbs. But with old floodlights some of them give off amber colour this is becuase of the bulb so test before using. As for the dolly i read somewhere that someone knicked or "borrowed" a trolley an used tht as a dolly. Also wheelchairs make good steadycam shots. Also beleive it or not they sell them on ebay lol.
